Angry and full of revenge On the evening of June 22, 1912, former President Theodore Roosevelt, commonly referred to as “TR” asked his supporters to leave the floor of the Republican National Convention and reconvene in Chicago’s Orchestra Hall to endorse the formation of a national progressive party. TR was angry the Republicans had not endorsed him for a third term, instead recognizing the current president, William Howard Taft, as their flag bearer.
