Belle Bart, not the Borscht Belt comedienne Belle Barth, who is the predominant search item when looking for the astrologer, is number 69 on the Jones hit parade. He peppers his 1000 nativities with astrologers and esotericists for as Kent McClung of the Hyperion symbols, said when I mentioned this, “Who else would remember them?” Well the late Donna Cunningham , herself an astrologer, did. She had a website dedicated to them, but it ended with

“We have an entire sky within us, our fiery strength and heavenly origin: Luna, which symbolizes the continuous motion of soul and body, Mars speed and Saturn slowness, the Sun God, Jupiter law, Mercury reason, and Venus humanity.”    – Marsilio Ficino, letter to Lorenzo the Magnificent on the sacred seven planets.

Aleister Crowley wrote prodigiously.   His works “The Book of the Law”, “Magick in Theory and Practice,” Diary of Drug Fiend and “The Book of Thoth” are almost de rigueur reading for occultists.  His tarot deck, the Thoth Tarot, is nonpareil.  It was created with Lady Frieda Harris and Israel Regardie, then his personal secretary and later president of the Golden Dawn.  The trio is depicted on the deck’s Nine of Disks, that is titled

Jerome Cardano’s astrological reckoning was the date I used to backtrack Marc Jones Martin Luther King scope, and I have been a fan ever since. Since we seem to hitting a lot of mathematicians this week, I thought I would add his for Cardano wrote Ars magna ( The Great Art; or, The Rules of Algebra ) a cornerstone in the history of algebra cementing his reputation as a great mathematician and then turned his hand

On a Sunday night in June, the twenty-nine-year-old astrologer Aliza Kelly was preparing to broadcast an Astrology 101 live stream from her apartment, on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. A glittering SpectroLED light panel made the living room feel like a tiny movie set. “My manager took me to get these lights at B&H,” she said. A windowsill was lined with gifts from clients—an illustrated zodiac, a white orchid. Kelly sat cross-legged on a

Having just finished Karen Christino’s biography on “Eva Adams” one can say the controversy of Adam’s birthdate is barely settled. Christino says Evangeline, a popular name at the time, was born to the poor side of the Adams family on Pavonia Avenue, right next to Journal Square (where the PATH station is these days) Jersey City, New Jersey February 8, 1868 at 8:36 am. Marc Jones has the same time, and perhaps this is what

If not for Ed Dearborn’s obit, previously highlighted here, we would know next to nothing about Ms. Aldrich other than she was born on May 17, 1875 in Des Moines Iowa. The Memorial site does not list her. Our next stop is Saturday, and gives 11:34 am for her birth time that is “from memory.” Marc Jones in his Sabian Symbols (the back of which is an index of his 1000 nativities) says 11:55 am.

The writeup on Mr. Dearborn is on Donna Cunningham’s Astrologer’s Memorial; we are just supplying the chart based on their records since when I clicked on it the chart disappeared. I happened upon him because I was searching for #19, Elizabeth Aldrich of whom it was said The Silk Hat ” Fellow Taurus Elizabeth Aldrich (1875-1948), once publisher of the New York Astrologer and a prominent mundane astrologer, was there at the banquet, as were

John L. Burgess is listed by Marc Jones as having been born May 1, 1899 at 12:09 pm at Ozark, Missouri. Even the late Donna Cunningham’s Astrologer’s memorial has nothing on him and Rodden quotes Jones. With his ascendant is 19 Leo — (SS) a houseboat party, Burgess is a typical see-saw temperament type; Jansky calls this an hourglass btw. Both agree that this type shifts his priorities with the occasion and his Sabian ascendant

Astrologer Noel Tyl has announced on his eponymous website that astrologer Donna Cunningham has reposed on her 75th birthday in Portland, Oregon. He gave her details on July 5, 1942, at 7:40 in Onawa, Iowa, a town found on the outskirts of Decatur, Iowa north of Omaha, Nebraska.  Mr. Tyl’s data is similar to the Vedic AstroSage. Since we published this, Mr. Tyl has reposed too, as has her friend Donna van Toen.  Our sympathies
