As Afghanistan lies near the junction of the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates, it often gets earthquakes, particularly in the area around the Hindu Kush mountain range. June 2022 Quake
In June 2022 was less in magnitude pegged at 5.9 but killed a least 1,000 people and injured about 1,500 people. The United Nations (UN) official tally was 1,039 deaths and 2,949 injuries, including 230 dead and 591 injured children. The Taliban government claimed the death toll was double that..
The June 21st quake though was quite violent and by comparing the charts one can easily see the difference.
